Life has been a roller coaster ride for Employers over the
last few years; we have all been forced to look long and hard
at how to deal with fluctuations in the size and composition
of the workforce. And there is a growing awareness that the
problem is not going to disappear: the Bureau of Labor Statistics
stated by 2008, the American job growth is projected to be
14% but the projected workforce growth is only 12%, equating
to a shortfall of 7 million employees.
Employment trends are cyclical. Every 10 years we go through
a period of major layoffs. The current economic downturn,
for example, has spurred much discussion about the impact
of a generational mix on the success of an organization: loss
of in-depth, historical knowledge has a significant impact
on succession planning and management. As this information
becomes more widely published, companies are beginning to
understand the value of workforce life cycle planning and
management. The subject of shortages in the workforce has
been widely studied and is well understood throughout Canada,
as well as the Asia Pacific countries, and is regarded as
a mounting crisis. Attracting the right candidates, retaining
the best employees, and assembling and tracking a reserve
talent pool© of retirees, contractors, and seasonal
workers, will be critical to continued success through volatile
economic times. Companies and non-profit organizations are
becoming inundated with information and recommendations to
look closely at their talent mix, and seek alternative workforce
suppliers to meet the pending crisis.
The WorkForce OS "difference" is the design
of the user interface, the technology that supports it, and
the price point that we can offer the application. After all,
a system is only as good as the data that is input, and an
application that is too complex or too expensive, will not
work in business. We believe these are the critical elements
of workforce planning and management success, and success
is what makes the difference.
Sincerely,
